What is Rotator Cuff Pain?

A soccer player is laying on the field with a knee injury.
A woman is standing in front of a damaged car holding her neck.

Whiplash occurs when the soft tissues in the neck are stretched too far, similar to how a rope frays when overstretched. It commonly results from auto accidents, particularly rear-end collisions. Up to 83% of people involved in such accidents may suffer from whiplash, with those struck by larger vehicles or with pre-existing arthritis being at higher risk.

Symptoms:

  • Sudden or delayed onset of dull neck pain
  • Sharp pain when moving the head
  • Pain centered in the back of the neck, potentially spreading to the shoulders or between the shoulder blades
  • Tension headaches, dizziness, and TMJ problems may accompany the injury
  • Symptoms may worsen over time
